BATAVIA, Ill. – State Rep. Matt Hanson, D-Montgomery, is lauding the Illinois Department of Natural Resources’recent multi-million dollar investment in Kane County’s Batavia Parks District.
“I am extremely grateful for grant programs like these which support our local parks and community spaces,” Hanson said. “IDNR’s $2.8 million investment in Batavia parks will go a long way in repurposing an underutilized space.”
The Illinois Department of Natural Resources Park and Recreational Facilities Construction Program provides up to 90% funding assistance for local governments to acquire or develop land for recreational or public access purposes. Batavia Parks District was selected after a rigorous selection process. It is one of 13 projects awarded grant funding totaling $28 million.
The Batavia Parks District grant funding will go towards transforming a commercial office building into a community recreation center. The center will service indoor recreation and community events. Demolition of existing office space and installation of new appliances are planned. The parking lot will be renovated to accommodate visitors with disabilities.
“A safer, more accessible community recreation center will attract more visitors and increase opportunities for our community to gather together. I welcome IDNR’s significant financial support for our public parks and recreational spaces.”
